Our new 2 ply semi solid shells are the best of both worlds. They have the purity of tone of a solid shell steam bent shell without the restrictions that reinforcement rings have on the openness and tonal purity. These shells are ¼” thick with each ply being ⅛ thick with no need for reinforcement rings. The outer ply is not a veneer, it is a hand selected, thin cut of hardwood lumber that we re-cut ourselves to insure the optimum selection of grain and all other aspects from sound to appearance. After 20 years of making steam bent solid shells, even we were astonished in the performance and tone of these shells, so much so that these will be our primary shells going forward. Our semi-solids give you all the sweet tones and fatness of a solid shell. There is no artifact of glue sound to the tone, but they are much more controlled than a typical solid. We are confident that if you try one of our new semi-solids, you will see and hear what we fell in love with.
